Turn up the lights in here baby…

Today’s gadget reminded me of a song that I’m listening to pretty much constantly; Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights“. Not only because this gadget consists of lots of pretty lights, but also because of the fuss around Kanye’s video for this song, because it’s supposedly causing seizures for people who suffer from photosensitive epilepsy. Well, I think this gadget might have the same effect on them! Introducing, the LED Cube:

LED Cube

Cop lights, flash lights, spot lights, strobe lights, street lights, LED lights!

The LED Cube is really one of those things that’s so damn simple, yet so very very pretty! Basically, it’s just 64 colour changing LEDs, aligned in a 4x4x4 formation inside a see-thru acrylic box, combined with a pre-programmed circuit board that makes the LEDs turn on an off in different colours and patterns. The speed of the effects can be adjusted, so that they are either really mesmerizing, or almost seizure-invoking like the video I mentioned earlier!

It’s availible from Firebox, and I have to admit, the LED Cube is a pricey little f*ck, but it’s hypnotizing powers seem to have taken over my mind. But -and here’s some good news for the real geeks among you!- it’s not too hard to make one yourself with a little help from Instructables and a little bit of patience ;)

Bring on those seizures!

A girl can’t live on gadgets only!

I have an extra special announcement to make! As you might have noticed, the previous post is written by a guest writer. I fell in love with his blog, and we found out we share a passion for music and gadgets. So we decided to cooperate a bit, and he’ll be writing for GizzMiss every once in a while and I’ll be writing for Rich Noise. Or actually… Adding some noise :)

I’m very excited to start this thing, and I’ll hope you’ll enjoy this as much as I do!

Sticky iPhone App!

In this world where gadgets become more common every day people can’t seem to live without their personal gadget; the iPhone and its apps. There is a solution for people who really can’t go without for even one second. This gadget sticks! Not to your iPhone, but to a huge metal box with doors which is more commonly known as the refrigerator. With the iPhone App Magnets you can turn your refrigerator into a huge ass iPhone. How cool is that?! Cool enough to leave your blackberry’s in the fridge!

One set contains 18 magnets with all the standard applications such as Calander, Mail, Weather, Youtube, iTunes, App Store and many more depicted on them! The iPhone App Magnets are available at Firebox, oh and another great thing… Check out the awesome packaging below!

Steve Jobs would be so proud if he could see the iPhone App Magnets! If -of course- he hasn’t updated his own fridge already!

Under my umbrella…

I admit, this “gadget” isn’t really all that new and sophisticated, but today’s rainy weather made me wish I had one of these with me! First off, the themesong:

I bet you were expecting Rihanna! Doesn’t make sense now, does it? Maybe it will if I tell you that today’s gadget is… the Smoker’s Umbrella. Okay, so umbrellas may not be that extraordinary, unless they belong to Mary Poppins that is, but I think this one’s got just that little extra that makes it worth mentioning on a gadget blog.

The Smokers Umbrella is basically like any other umbrella, but it’s designed especially for the avid smoker -like myself- who’s been banned to smoke outside since smoking’s pretty much prohibited everywhere. Depending on where you live, this “outside” might contain quite some rain. And what’s better against the rain than an umbrella?

The Smokers Umbrella

Create your own rain-free smoking area!

It’s not the cigarettes and smoke-related song titles printed on it that make it special, but the small click-on ashtray, ensuring you won’t have to pollute the environment by throwing your cigarette butt out on the street. The ashtray happens to be in the shape of a heart, but I’m not sure if that’s irony or just foreseeing potential romances caused by smokers bonding over the inconvenience of having to smoke outside.

Another interesting detail is the packaging of the Smokers Umbrella. It comes in a cute cigarette-shaped tin, making it a great gift for every smoker! Availible in the Netherlands at Gadgethouse , but Google says it’s availible pretty much everywhere else too :)

Thanks for reading and until next time!

Burn it down!

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”, Shakespeare already said. For once, I have to disagree. Better yet, I dare to bet its name makes this gadget extra cool. Introducing: the FireStarter!

Now how’s that for an announcement? Those of you who are familiar with Discovery Channel’s “Ultimate Survivor” can probably guess what this is for:

FireStarter
The FireStarter!

The name says it all; you can use it to start a fire! Usually it’s called a flint, but for some reason the name got to me. Basically, all you need to do is run the flat metal piece against the round metal, which is coated with magnesium. As some of you might remember from chemistry classes long ago, warming up magnesium gives you a bright, hot mess that’s mostly resembling a long-lasting spark. Well, this is pretty much the same idea. When you run the flat part against the long part quick enough, it creates those sparks, which can get up to 3000 degrees Celsius. Pretty damn hot, eh? When the sparks come into contact with some dry branches or anything else that’s combustible, a fire is born. Sounds almost too easy to be true, so I’m definitely getting one just to see if it’s really that simple. You can expect a follow up on this post (unless I accidentally burn something down and end up in jail) in a little while!

Anyway, for whoever is interested; here in the Netherlands they’re for sale at Megagadgets.nl (yep, I stole… Um, borrowed their picture xD). But I think good outdoor-themed stores should stock them as well!

So, that’s it for now, thanks for reading and until next time! – I’ll try to be a bit less slow with my posting :)

Hello world!

First post, here goes. Let’s start off with a little introduction, shall we?

After going through numerous blogs, I noticed most blogs written by females are about fashion and make-up. Don’t get me wrong, I love fashion and make-up (else I wouldn’t be reading those blogs, would I?), but there’s hardly blogs by/for nerdish types like me, whose main interests are beyond the usual. I happen to be into gadgets, and there’s a lot of girls out there who feel the same. So I decided to blog ‘em.

A basic introduction to gadgets: Gadgets are mostly just things you really don’t need, but have a *must have this* effect on you. And when you look at gadgets like this, they’re really not that different from shoes, fragrances, dresses and all the other things we girls like.

The main plan of this blog is to look out for the coolest, funniest and most sophisticated gadgets, gifts and gizmo’s there are, and share ‘em with whoever is interested :) Suggestions are warmly welcomed!

I hope you’ll enjoy!
